VINH'LL FIX IT@@

It was like, 2014(?) and I was playing G-Mod with my brother.

He was running windows. He got infected by this virus that spread through the game. His username got changed to VINH'LL FIX IT@@ and his steam was automatically spamming messages to all his friends, including me. I was running LInux, and my computer wasn’t infected. I was laughing while he was panicking and trying to figure out how to fix his computer.

I’m not sure if this was the “cough virus” which I’ve read about online. This virus in particular was a harmless exploit of a security flaw. I remember reading that this virus could have had any paypload, run any exe, but all the author programmed it to do was spam people and change the gamer’s username.

I helped my brother remove the virus, but his steam history was defaced for awhile with the previous username listed as, “VINH’LL FIX IT@@“. It was funny to browse Steam profiles and see how many other players had this same name, presumably affected by the same virus.
